Writing Workshops & Courses
Your own personal memoir begins here.
Whether you want to write about a single moment, or your entire life story, it can be hard to get started. Give yourself the time and permission to write your story, and to tell it the way your want to tell it. These courses will meet you where you are, and help you to get where you’re going.
Course 1: Writing the Personal Story
Your story is unique. Only you can tell it. But you’ve had a full life. Where do you even begin?
This 3-hour course is a great way to get your arms around your story. It provides an overview of the storytelling tactics that all writers use, and allows for space for participants to create “jumping off points” to begin their own stories.
We will discuss:
Timelines
World building
How to make use of specific details to make the world come alive.
This course if offered once a month. Click here to sign up and secure your place in class.
Need a little more time? This course is also a workshop.
Course 2: Approaching the Blank Page
Painters have the blank canvas, sculptors have their raw material, and writers have the blank page. How do we approach the work when it is nothing but an idea? And what happens when the work looks nothing like our original idea?
This 2-hour course will provide tricks for approaching the blank page, including:
Storytelling prompts that help you thread the needle
Using technology to your advantage
Leaving your desk, touching grass, taking a shower, etc. to return to your desk with your tank full.
This course is offered once a month. Click here to sign up and secure your place in class.
Course 3: Writing for Forgiveness
I would say that this is gonna hurt, but the truth is, all writing hurts. It also feels so good. Writing, especially personal writing, frees us from the thoughts, ideas and experiences we’ve been carrying. When we write with the aim of forgiving, we take the pain out of our bodies and we put it onto the page. Once there, it takes on its own life and becomes its own thing. When you make pain tangible, it can be played with, explored, and shaped. This isn’t to press the bruise, but rather to ease it, to lighten it, to make it go away. And it can. Your history is your history, but it doesn’t have to hurt so much. We can lance the boil, needle the splinter, ice that swollen wound.
In this 2-hour course, we will the discuss how the body holds onto things we no longer need, and how we can excavate our pains by telling their stories.
This course includes:
Somatic exercises for identifying the pain in the body
Excavation exercises for giving the pain a voice
And storytelling exercises for giving getting the pain onto the page and out of your body.
It will end with an EFT tapping for releasing stuck grief, helping participants to feel better, lighter and freer by the time we say goodbye.
This course if offered once a month. Click here to sign up and secure your place in class.
“We write to taste life twice,
in the moment and in retrospect.”
